- Physical Therapy Assistant
Description
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA assists in implementing individualized treatment plans to help patients improve mobility, manage pain, restore function, and prevent disability. This role supports the clinic’s mission of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a private practice setting.
Key Responsibilities
Administer physical therapy treatments and interventions as directed by the supervising PT.
Instruct, motivate, and assist patients in therapeutic exercises, mobility activities, and use of assistive devices.
Monitor patient progress and report changes in condition or response to treatment to the PT.
Document all patient care activities in compliance with state, federal, and clinic requirements.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized treatment environment.
Educate patients and families on therapy goals, home exercise programs, and ongoing care needs.
Assist with clinic flow, including patient scheduling, preparation, and equipment setup.
Participate in continuing education and training to maintain state licensure and professional competency.
Uphold ethical and legal standards, including HIPAA and New Mexico state practice regulations.
Requirements
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Current New Mexico PTA license in good standing.
Current CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain before start date).
Outpatient orthopedic or musculoskeletal experience preferred, but new graduates encouraged to apply.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centered care.
