Work Environment
The Physical Therapist Assistant role is set within a busy hospital environment where no two days are the same. You will collaborate closely with Physical Therapists and other healthcare professionals to evaluate patient needs and implement effective treatment strategies. The onsite work setting allows you to engage directly with patients during their rehabilitation journey, providing not only clinical support but also emotional encouragement.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer direct physical therapy interventions based on treatment plans designed by licensed Physical Therapists.
- Execute therapeutic exercises, including both active and passive modalities, muscle reeducation, and gait training to promote recovery and functional independence.
- Utilize a range of physical agents—such as heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation—to enhance treatment effectiveness.
- Monitor patient responses to therapy sessions attentively; report any changes in condition and overall health to the supervising Physical Therapist promptly.
- Educate patients and families on exercise regimens, proper use of assistive devices (e.g., wheelchairs, crutches), and strategies to optimize daily function.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring all clinical documentation is up to date and reflective of each patient's progress.
- Engage in interdisciplinary meetings and in-service education programs to stay current with best practices and contribute to team learning.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the clinical leadership to support team objectives.
Patient Population / Client Focus
You will work with a diverse patient population, each presenting unique rehabilitation needs stemming from orthopedic, neurological, and post-surgical conditions. Your ability to adapt therapeutic techniques to varying levels of patient acuity and functional capabilities will be critical. Providing compassionate care and empowering patients on their road to recovery is central to this role.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program with an Associate's degree in science or applied science, recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Current licensing or certification as mandated by Nevada state law for Physical Therapist Assistants.
- Valid CPR certification, which must be kept current.
- A valid driver's license, with access to a reliable and insured vehicle for commuting to various patient locations as required.
Preferred Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting, ideally within a hospital or rehabilitation environment.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience utilizing electronic health records (EHR) systems for maintaining patient documentation and care plans.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this role ranges from USD 60,000 to 80,000 annually, dependent on experience and qualifications.
