Work Environment
The role of Physical Therapist Assistant at Mercy Physical Therapy is based onsite within our hospital rehabilitation center. The working hours typically span from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility required to meet patient needs and clinic operations. Our workspace is designed to foster a collaborative environment among healthcare providers, enhancing teamwork and communication for optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed Physical Therapists in executing customized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs, focusing on mobility enhancement, strength building, and overall functional improvement.
- Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and activities designed to alleviate pain and promote physical well-being, providing hands-on support and encouragement throughout their rehabilitation journeys.
- Educate patients on proper body mechanics and exercise techniques, along with administering home exercise programs that facilitate continuous recovery.
- Administer therapeutic modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and heat/cold therapy, ensuring adherence to treatment protocols under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
- Continuously monitor and document patient progress, tracking key metrics like range of motion and strength enhancements, while maintaining accurate records to inform ongoing treatment adjustments.
- Prepare treatment environments by ensuring equipment is clean, organized, and ready for therapy sessions, contributing to a safe and efficient workflow.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech-Language Pathologists, to provide comprehensive care that significantly influences patient outcomes.
- Offer emotional support to patients, fostering motivation and positivity throughout their rehabilitation experiences, which plays a crucial role in their recovery.
- Uphold ethical and professional standards, prioritizing patient confidentiality and respect for individual rights at all times.
Patient Population / Client Focus
As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will work with a diverse range of patient populations, each presenting unique challenges and rehabilitation needs. Your role directly supports individuals recovering from surgeries, chronic conditions, sports injuries, and mobility impairments, reinforcing their resilience and determination in overcoming physical limitations.
Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program with an Associate degree.
- Possession of a valid state license or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Strong foundational knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and therapeutic interventions pertinent to physical therapy.
- Demonstrated proficiency in delivering therapeutic exercises and modalities, always under the guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective rapport-building with patients and teamwork within the healthcare setting.
- A patient-centered approach with a genuine passion for aiding others in their recovery journeys.
- Ability to adjust treatment plans based on the individual needs of patients across various demographics and health conditions.

Preferred Experience
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Experience working with specialized populations, including geriatric and pediatric patients.
Compensation and Benefits
